A Night in History

Every day a new baseball fan is born in the United States. For the newborns of Chicago Cubs households, they’ll now grow up hearing the story of their first World Series and how it changed everything.

The Cubs play the 7th game of the 2016 World Series tonight, determining if they’ll win or lose the championship. Something they haven’t had the opportunity to do since 1945 when the owner of the Billy Goat Tavern, William Sianis, ‘cursed’ them.

They haven’t been to the series since.

But it can finally be said: the Billy Goat curse is broken! Many will think this is ‘just baseball’, but it’s really so much more than that. It’s a beloved and timeless tradition that’s been shared through many generations. It is America’s favorite pastime and is regularly categorized with apple pie on the scale of patriotic symbols.

There are millions of Americans that have fond memories of watching their favorite team with parents and grandparents, playing catch in the yard, and the smell of a new glove. Generations of Cubs fans have been waiting for this moment throughout their lives and now they can finally experience it together.

This is an emotional experience for many. Countless fans have written messages on the brick wall of Wrigley Field using chalk. Many simply read ‘Go Cubs’ but those who cannot celebrate this exciting journey with loved ones they’ve lost have taken this opportunity to create messages of love, mourning, and celebration.

At 7 pm tonight the tradition will continue in homes across the nation as families come together. They’ll share laughter, excitement, and memories to last a lifetime as the Cubs make history.

As doulas we get to see history being made every day.

Each time a new baby is born we get to witness the transformation in their parents’ lives. There is a new sense of purpose, confidence and accomplishment that’s hard to describe. After hours of anticipation they get to finally gaze upon the newest light in their life and the moment is irreplaceable. They may have made mistakes in the past or have fallen on hardships, but in the second that they meet their baby it all falls away. Even if it’s only for a few, simple, beautiful minutes.

There will be curve balls and maybe a few strikeouts but in the end all seems to come together. Parenthood isn’t always easy, by any means. It’s ridiculously difficult to bat a thousand. But it helps when you have a team that you can rely on to have your back through the championships and the goat curses alike.

Our agency’s experts are the best doulas in western Wisconsin to join your team. Eau Claire Doulas understands the importance of family and honoring your traditions, goals, and accomplishments. We are honored to support you through this extraordinary time.
